What Is Low-SAPS Engine Oil
Low - SAPS Engine Oil is an oil with low contents of sulphur, sulphates ash and phosphorus. Low SAPS is also referred to as Low Ash Oil and is an acronym for Sulphates Ash, Phosphorus, and Sulphur. Different vehicle manufacturers will use different types of SAPS level best suited for their engine and will have an ACEA C Rating, which you can find in your vehicle’s handbook.
Different ACEA C Ratings include:
C1 Low Saps - 0.5% Ash - Fuel Efficient
C2 Mid SAPS - 0.8% Ash - Fuel Efficient, for high-performance engines
C3 Mid SAPS - 0.8% Ash - Better Performance, less fuel-efficient
Why Is Low SAPS Oil Used?
Low SAPS engine oil is used to combat the build-up of deposits left from the burning of the oil (sulphur, sulphate ash, phosphorous and sulphur). Low SAPS refers to being low in ash level due to their low tendency to form ash. Over time deposits of ash can build up and cause a block in your vehicles diesel particulate filter. A blocked DPF can impact vehicles performance/efficiency and increase emissions. deposits may also form on internal engine parts, which can damage the engine.
