Heating oil may be the last thing on your mind during warmer weather however, early planning for the winter months can have real benefits. Here is a list of tips to consider during the summertime.
CONSIDER YOUR FUEL REQUIREMENTS
Typically, buying heating oil in the summer can make it significantly cheaper since there is less demand and prices tend to be lower. Oil prices can also be affected by location, weather, politics and production levels across the world.
PROTECT YOUR HEATING OIL
Heating Oil Tanks and the fuel itself are expensive and unfortunately can be a target of theft. Summertime is the best time to make any improvements to your garden- including ways to protect your tank/fuel. This can be achieved by using Tank locks, alarms, CCTV, or hiding your tank using plants or trellis. Read our blog post on Heating Oil Theft for more information.
HAVE YOUR TANK/BOILER SERVICED
Your tank and boiler should be serviced annually by a qualified oil-fired heating engineer. The summer is the perfect time to do this so you're set up for winter.
PLAN AHEAD
If you have difficulty in paying for your whole order in advance, look into cost-effective ways to help you do this such as our budget payment plan. This can benefit during the winter months when heating oil is bought more frequently.
CHECK YOUR INSURANCE
Make sure that your home insurance policy covers your oil tank. Most insurance policies do not include this in their standard cover. You need to be covered for loss of fuel through theft and oil spills, and the environmental clean-up of your property and any adjacent land in the event of a leak.
SUMMER IS TIME TO MAKE ANY CHANGES/UPDATES
Whether you need to set up a new heating oil tank, boiler, radiator or new gauge- all these tasks are a lot easier to do during the summertime, as weather conditions are usually dry and warm. Think back to winter and whatever you said you would get done, take advantage and make a start today.
